James Hillis is an Oberlin Conservatory Graduate, Winner of Tanglewood's Outstanding Young Pianist Award. A former student of Joseph Schwartz chair of the Oberlin Conservatory Piano Dept, Julian Martin, and a former private student of Veda Kaplinsky (currently the head of the Juilliard Piano Division).

James Hillis is the founder and sole piano professor at the Capital Piano Conservatory in Washington DC and suburban Maryland. Our mission is to provide performance-based training to a diverse student community of talented, motivated pre-college pianists. Mr. Hillis's students develop an effortless technique, an ability to learn repertoire quickly and easily, and are instilled with a deep love of music and music-making that will last a lifetime.
