As a teacher, I am interested in fostering the love of music and in particular, the enchantment with the PIANO! One does not have to be a grand master to enjoy sitting at the instrument and bringing forth the sound of melodies, harmonies, hands crossing over one another, the discovery of the language of music, for indeed, it is like learning a new language. And it is with this in mind, I am intent on watching my students closely and devising their weekly lesson plans so as to help them go home with a clarity of purpose and with luck, inspiration to improve and progress. They are advised to phone me with problems and difficulties so they don't waste time practicing incorrectly. I devote time for all my young musicians-in-the-making whenever possible and encourage them to listen to classical music, especially, and to attend concerts and programs with their parents. It builds interest and curiosity. The ability to play the piano is a lifelong endeavor, a thrill in the best of times, and a solace in difficult times.

Lesson details

My students' time with me is quite structured so as to make the most of our time together. We begin with assigned technical work, scales or arpeggi and other various technical exercises (I rely on the Dozen-a-Day series and even my adults use these as well as the children!) Then we begin to work together on the assigned repertoire, which is geared to the level of advancement and a balanced menu is vital (classics, modern, contemporary, early jazz and rock for fun). We sometimes end up by looking thru music for the near future and I will often sit down and play things I think will "light up" their young faces and give them pieces to look forward to playing themselves!

"Dear Pam,
How can I ever thank you enough? You have given me so much over the years - a solid foundation as a pianist, a greatly expanded knowledge of music and composers, and encouragement in so many areas. I look forward to being able to give you occasional phone recitals! With overflowing thanks and love, Abby"
student, N.Y., N.Y.

"....I have always been impressed with the high quality of Pamela's teaching, which I have had occasion to observe many times. She is always very patient with the children she teaches, and she is tremendously thorough in her instruction. I was especially impressed with the high level of repertoire she teaches her students; most children who study with Pamela perform at a much more advanced level than most students their age."
John Colligan, Chair, Music Department, St. Hilda's & St. Hugh's School, Manhattan, NY

"Pamela was instrumental in not only introducing music to my daughter, but also for her overall development into a musically trained and talented young woman. Lessons included not only the learning of pieces and technique work, but also the history of music, composers, and music theory. Her regularly organized recitals for family and friends reflected her energy, enthusiasm, passion for music, and love of her students."
Mercy Davidson, Ph.D., parent, N.Y., N.Y.
