Susan has been playing piano and singing all
her life. She began playing at the age of 3,
and started writing songs shortly
thereafter. She quit piano lessons after
only a few years. When she finished high
school she decided to go to the University
of North Carolina at Greensboro, and
recieved a BA in Psychology. She decided to
go back to school for music and studied
again at UNCG with Dr. Barbara Hill. She
began teaching while in school, and has been
teaching for 21 1/2 years. Always having
wanted to be a musician, she has played for
weddings and parties, and also plays and
sings in a band as well as a solo artist.
She is also a member of the Raleigh Music
She believes that
every child should have music lessons. It
has many benefits: It's a good way to learn
how you learn, it is full of math and fine
motor skill training. It also teaches about
the balance between success and failure, and
that a positive attitude self esteem, and
perseverence can be nurtured through the
study of piano.
She grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina
and after having moved to Raleigh NC, she
married Kevin Riggs. She loves swimming and
believes in working out and meditation.
She has an organic garden in Youngsville NC,
and is passionate about the environment.
