Rita Busse Gulliksen, M. Music, NCTM

Rita Busse Gulliksen majored in piano, organ and studied voice at Richmond Professional Institute where she graduated with honors. She received a Master of Music in piano performance from Virginia Commonwealth University. She also attended Shenandoah University where she studied church music, and the Pontifical Institute of Music in Rome, Italy where she studied Gregorian chant. She has held the position of organist/choirmaster at Manakin Episcopal Church for 19 years. She has maintained a private piano studio for more than 25 years. She is a member of the Music Teacher’s National Association, The American Guild of Organists, The National Guild of Piano Teachers and is a member of Delta Omicron International Music Fraternity. She is a National Guild judge.

Mrs. Gulliksen loves teaching on her Steinway Model L grand piano. Her students consistently earn superior grades in festivals and the Guild Auditions. Students also learn theory, sight reading and music history. Her greatest joy is watching her students learn to play and love beautiful music. Her motto is “Teaching beautiful music for life”.

Mrs. Gulliksen lives with her husband in the house where she grew up. They enjoy sailing, golfing and traveling. They have two children. Mrs. Gulliksen also enjoys needlework and cooking.
